Mainnet is Live — Introducing Fuel Ignition

Fuel Labs is excited to announce the launch of Fuel Ignition, a high-performance Ethereum Layer 2 powered by the FuelVM.

The launch of Ignition marks a significant milestone for the Fuel community, nearly four years after our launch of Fuel V1, the first Stage 2 optimistic rollup live on Ethereum. Ignition addresses a creeping centralization infecting blockchain ecosystems by delivering a scalable architecture designed to run on inexpensive, consumer-grade hardware that is accessible to all.

Fuel the Future

Blockchain is gradually succumbing to centralization as increasing node requirements and unchecked growth of chain resources threaten the promise of decentralized infrastructure. As this happens, data centers and gatekeepers seize control, undermining the sovereignty crypto was meant to protect.

Fuel rejects these centralizing forces and embraces a new architecture—one where nodes run in every basement. Our technology encodes freedom and retains Ethereum’s core values of decentralization, security, and community-driven development.

We created Fuel with a clear mission: to scale execution while retaining home validation and consumer hardware requirements. Recognizing the limitations of existing blockchain designs, the team set out to build a solution that integrates years of development insights into a highly efficient and sustainable platform. Fuel Ignition is the first step on this journey.

Fuel Ignition

Fuel Ignition is a high-performance L2 solution that aims to solve both state-sustainability and performant execution as an Ethereum rollup. Ignition is built upon the Fuel Virtual Machine (FuelVM) and a UTXO-based, asset-centric architecture with Ethereum-grade security.

Ignition delivers fast and low-cost transactions while operating as an Ethereum L2. Developers choose Fuel to provide a reliable rollup foundation that ensures efficient transaction processing for their users while retaining universal wallet support and access to Ethereum liquidity.

Parallel Execution and High Throughput

Fuel enables parallel execution, allowing developers to process transactions quickly without overloading the network. Our benchmarking has shown 21,000+ TPS per core, which horizontally increases per number of cores. Ignition delivers 600+ TPS on Ethereum DA, and this will keep increasing with improvements in compression techniques and increases in Ethereum DA. By leveraging FuelVM’s parallel execution and high throughput capabilities, along with new primitives like Spending Conditions and Transaction Scripting, Fuel is ushering in a new era of blockchain development.

Any Wallet, Any Asset

Fuel supports all Ethereum and Solana wallets natively, including MetaMask, Phantom, passkeys, and WalletConnect, with the aim of supporting all major networks and signing types. Ignition is bridged to Ethereum Mainnet and supports all Ethereum assets.

Ethereum Data Availability Security (Using EIP-4844)

Ignition leverages Ethereum's decentralized data availability by relying on Ethereum’s network of over 8,000 nodes globally. This ensures maximum settlement security for user funds.

Our Emerging Ecosystem

Users can now download the Fuelet Wallet or any Ethereum/Solana wallet, use the Fuel Bridge and explore the Fuel Ecosystem, a fast-growing hub of user-centric applications from wallets, to decentralized exchanges, lending protocols and prediction markets.

Once bridged, users can try live dApps on Ignition such as Bako Safe multisig, Thunder NFT Marketplace, Mira DEX, Griffy Prediction Market and SwayLend. Many more dApps will be live on Ignition in the coming days and weeks, such as Spark Order Book Exchange, Ruscet Exchange and Fluid Stablecoin Protocol. Be sure to follow your favorite projects for updates.

Additionally, Phase 2 of the Fuel Points Program is officially live, and all qualifying users can participate! For more information, check out our announcement.

Getting Started with Fuel Ignition

Developers can get started with our documentation and introductory guides on how to build, test, and deploy DApps on Fuel. There are tutorials to help you get started and explore what is possible on Fuel Ignition.

A starting point for building on Ignition is Sway, a domain-specific language we designed for smart contract development, tailored specifically to the FuelVM.

Drawing inspiration from Rust's powerful approach to systems programming, Sway strikes a delicate balance between performance and control, enabling developers to craft efficient, secure code with confidence. By leveraging extensive static analysis, Sway proactively guards against common security pitfalls that have plagued other blockchain platforms.

We are also excited to collaborate with some of the best players in the space who are helping to build Fuel’s infrastructure:

You can run your own node on Ignition right now by following this simple guide to interact with the Fuel network or use our public API link here.

We are thrilled to bring these new tools to the industry and can’t wait to see what each developer creates.

Security and Stage 2 Commitment

Fuel Ignition was audited extensively by leading third-party security engineering firms, including ChainSecurity, OtterSec, and Hexens. Our audit results are posted on Github. We also underwent a $1.3 million bug bounty with Immunefi.

Fuel V1 was one of the few rollups to attain Stage 2 level security (per L2Beat), and Ignition will be no different.

Ignition will likely have a Stage 0 rating at launch, but it will rapidly move toward Stage 1 and then eventually Stage 2. Our goal is to enhance Ignition’s security by implementing permissionless fault proving, which we define as hybrid zero-knowledge proving. Keep an eye out for more details.

Achieving stage 2 requires complex and precise design work. Additionally, hybrid proving, being a new technology, needs time for development and thorough testing. Our top priority at Fuel remains fulfilling our commitment to achieving stage 2 security status for Fuel Ignition as quickly as possible. We plan to release more information about our security roadmap in the coming weeks.

We’re grateful to every member of the Fuel community who has put their time, energy, and passion into making Ignition a reality. We invite everyone—whether you're looking for support, developer guidance, or lively discussion—to join our Fuel Forum and Discord community.
